Castle Drogo -
Castle Drogo is one of the most unusual properties in the country. Like several other castles in Devon, Drogo is operated by the national trust, but despite its looks it was the first property built in the 20th century donated to the trust. The castle was started in 1911, designed by architect Edwin Lutyens with styles taken from mediaeval and Tudor periods, but from the outset this castle was built with electricity and elevators. Due to the first world war and the great depression, completion of Castle Drogo was delayed until 1930. Less that half a century later the castle was donated to the National Trust and is open to the public. With 600 acres of estate with beautiful gardens and glorious views across Dartmoor.

The castle itself is open to visitors throughout the year, although outside of the summer there are days when it is not open, so it is best to check before visiting. For spring and summer months the castle is open from 11:00 to 17:00, although the gardens and visitor centre are open from 08:30 every day.
